2018-2019 Late Start Information
2018-2019 Late Start InformationDear Ryan Elementary Community,

Beginning with the 2018-2019 school year, Ryan Elementary will start school one hour late EVERY MONDAY morning.  This time will allow teachers an extra 75 minutes of planning time to continue to deepen our understanding of being a Professional Learning Community and our work for the Jeffco Generations expectations from Dr. Jason Glass, Superintendent of Jefferson County Schools.  Specifically, this allows teachers more time to develop common informal assessments to determine levels of understanding around weekly concepts being taught and collaborate around effective teaching strategies.  This time will also allow teachers more time to plan authentic learning tasks in the classroom, resulting in higher engagement for students.

The survey that was sent out to parents showed that parents preferred either a Friday afternoon early release or a Monday morning late start.  Friday afternoons are not the most conducive for teacher learning, so that is how we decided on Monday mornings.  If this will cause a hardship for your family next year, please contact Mrs. Shaner.  SAE details will be released by mid-May.

For those of you who plan to have half day Kindergarten students, Jeffco recommends 2.5 hours a day for half day Kinder. Ryan will release half day at 11:40 next year which will still give a total of 890 minutes of instruction per week.  Jeffco’s recommendation is 750 minutes per week. Even with a late start on Mondays, half day Kinder will get 140 more minutes than at other schools.

Thank you so very much for your support and valuing the time that our teachers need ultimately resulting in an even better school experience for students and families at Ryan Elementary
